Surgitech Launches Repel-CV® Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier
Surgitech, a leading supplier of innovative speciality surgical devices throughout South Africa, is pleased to announce the launch of the Repel-CV Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier produced by SyntheMed, Inc.
Repel-CV® Adhesion Barrier reduces the formation of post-operative adhesions following cardiac surgery.
Cardiovascular surgeons realise that:
- the dissection of retrosternal and intra-pericardial adhesions is an unavoidable and time-consuming part of secondary open heart surgery procedures, and
- the resulting patient risks and prolonged anaesthesia exposure negatively impacts the delivery of quality patient care.
Repel-CV® is an easy to use, non-adherent, compliant, transparent, bioresorbable and biocompatible polymeric film comprising poly-lactic (PLA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG).
By decreasing the extent and severity of postoperative cardiac adhesions, Repel-CV® provides a more clearly defined anatomy with discernable landmarks and plane of dissection. Repel-CV® completely resorbs in approximately one month and does not need to be dissected out during the second operation.
Repel-CV® has the CE Mark (August 2006), and is also currently the only FDA approved product available to the cardiovascular surgeon to address post-operative adhesion formation in paediatric patients (21 yrs and younger) who are likely to need secondary open heart surgery.
Repel-CV® Adhesion Barrier:
- Impedes the formation of adhesions between the epicardial surface and apposing tissue surfaces by blocking transmission of fibrin
- Rapidly degrades until it is completely resorbed
- Reduces the need for lengthy adhesion dissection
- May reduce the patient’s exposure to anaesthesia and associated risks and complications
The benefits are clear. For further details and information please contact:
